Between the girls' and boys' toilets in northern Thailand's Kampang Secondary School is an extra toilet signposted with a half-man, half-woman icon. 13-year-old Triwate Phamanee told the BBC: "We're not boys, so we don't want to use the boys' toilet - we want them to know we are transsexuals." Installed after headteacher Sitisak Sumontha discovered that each year between 10-20% of his male students consider themselves transgender, the toilets have won national awards for cleanliness.
