Christchurch's The Box men's cruise club will celebrate its fifth birthday next weekend with a live DJ in the venue, $2,000 worth of prizes and a complimentary free drink for all partygoers. "Last years party was a great success, there was a huge turn-out of guys and this years party looks set be even bigger and better," say the venue's owners Toby and Marcus. The party, called Lust, is planned for Saturday 9th May from 9pm until 3am at the venue on Lichfield Street. "There will be a live DJ actually inside the venue playing the hottest dance sounds and everyone will get a complimentary beer, wine or soft drink on arrival to get into the party mood," The Box crew promise. "To say a big thank-you, $2,000 worth of prizes will be given away on the night. All guys arriving at the venue after 9pm will be given a raffle ticket and five tickets will be drawn at 11pm for each lucky winner to receive a $400 goody bag containing essential gay supplies." The Box venue originally started out a small gay adult cinema and bookshop in May 2004. It underwent a major expansion two years ago where the venue doubled in size and became a full-on cruise club, also including two gay porn cinemas with giant screens. "We would like to thank all of our customers for their loyal support during the last five years, we had no idea when we originally opened up that the venue was going to be so popular." Christchurch is also served by Menfriends all-male venue, which is located nearby on Lichfield Street, and features a spa, stream room, sauna, maze and shop.
