Scottish mum fined for taunting gay son

Thu 23 Apr 2009 In: International News View at Wayback

A mother who shouted homophobic abuse at her estranged 16-year-old son has been fined £250 (NZ$650). The incident happened when Celia Duncan, 42, spotted Stuart O'Neill holding hands with his boyfriend, reports the BBC. She swore at the pair and called them "poofs". "I feel really betrayed by my mum," said O'Neill. "What she said to me was vile and hurtful. "My mum didn't like the fact I was gay… She basically threw me out of the house." Duncan admitted her public outburst was 'a breach of the peace', and also owned up to sending threatening phone messages, and a voicemail which stated: "I will get you, believe me, and you will get your head kicked in."
