In front of a crowded room of reporters and marriage equality advocates, New York Governor David Paterson yesterday re-introduced legislation which would legalise same-sex marriage in the state. "We have an honour and a duty to make sure that equality exists for everyone," he said. "We have all known the wrath of discrimination. We have all felt the pain and the insult of hatred. This is why we are all standing here today. We stand to tell the world that we want equality for everyone. We stand to tell the world that we want marriage equality." If successful, the bill would make New York the fifth and highest-profile state of America to allow marriage from same-sex couples.
