An upcoming Out at Work Kamp/Conference in the Kapiti Coast is a great opportunity for queer activists to discuss how to ensure support for diversity in the workplace, says the Council of Trade Unions (CTU). Out at Work: The girls of the NZCTU Out at Work is the CTU's network for takataapui, lesbian, gay, transgender, bisexual, intersex and fa'afafine union members, focussing on employment and human rights and celebrating different sexual orientation and gender identity. Their 2009 Kamp will focus on LGBTI rights, political issues, cultural history, current issues, international issues, building out at work networks and use of electronic mediums to build networks and unions. Politicians and union leaders are among the guests invited to speak at the event. Any union member can apply to their union to attend. Some unions will be able to pick up the cost of the Kamp too as well as reimbursing employers so that workers can be paid to attend. The Out at Work network will assist with transport to the venue for those coming from out of town without transport. The Kamp /Conference is planned to take place on the Thursday 14 and Friday 15 May at PSA Holiday Homes, Raumati, Kapiti Coast, near Wellington. Please contact your unions for more information or register by contacting Sharonh@nzctu.org.nz.
