Film censors in Samoa have banned the gay-themed movie Milk, reports the NZ Herald. A local film store had asked the censors to approve the film after demand by customers for it, but the request was declined, with no reason given. Samoan human rights activist Ken Moala believes the censors sometimes pick the wrong movies to ban. "Some of the movies that have been here are violent and horrific. When it comes to documentaries like this, I think it is all about the human story as opposed to the slaughter that goes on in some of these movies," he told the newspaper. "I don't know the reasons why they would do that, are they making a statement against the gay organisations? Or what?" Milk, released last year, won numerous accolades from film critics and guilds and received eight Oscar nominations, winning two - including Best Actor for Sean Penn in the title role.
