Women's Bookshop celebrates 20 years

Ponsonby's gay-friendly Women's Bookshop is celebrating its twentieth anniversary of business this week with a special concert event. Anniversary: The Women's Bookshop team The long-serving bookshop specialises in women writers, also stocks a wide range of LGBT literature and frequently sells tickets to Auckland's best gay parties and charity fundraisers. Planned for this Friday 3 April from 8pm at the Dorothy Winstone Theatre in Auckland Girls' Grammar, the Twentieth Birthday Celebration Concert will feature a large line-up of women writers and singers, including songs from the girls of Auckland's Gay and Lesbian Choir. Also at the concert will be Patricia Grace, Stephanie Johnson, Karlo Mila, Fiona Farrell, Kate De Goldi with drumming band AK Samba, Carmel Carroll singing opera, and Jess Hawk Oakenstar, back from the USA, with Hilz (Hilary King). There will be birthday cake for everyone at the interval, promises Women's Bookshop owner Carole Beu. Tickets are $25 from the shop.
