Priscilla Queen of the Desert is "tired old showbiz camp" and "sort of stinks", according to some critics in London, where the stage show premiered this week. "It's gaudy and garish with plenty of crude puns. Camp, camp, camp in capital letters," wrote a BBC correspondent who was at the red carpet opening night. The London show stars '80's pop star Jason Donovan as wise older drag queen Tick. Other critics enjoyed the huge, glittering show: "All wrapped up as a shiny, pinkbowed package, this sumptuously dressed show works gloriously, with its parade of ever more jaw-dropping costumes an utter feast for the eye," said the Daily Express newspaper. When the Australian show visited Auckland's Civic Theatre for a six-week season last year, it broke box-office records selling a staggering 104,000 tickets and grossing NZ$10 million dollars. Australia's most popular musical, Priscilla will also open in Toronto later this year. Watch members of London's Priscilla cast perform on a UK TV dancing show below.
