L.I.C. stands for Lesbians In Charge, a new event for women starting at Auckland's Kamo café and bar on K' Road this Friday night. The new event aims to offer another space for Auckland's lesbian community to meet, enjoy a few laughs, and do some dancing in a safe women-conscious space," says the night's bar manager Robyn Vella. "The DJs' and friendly bar staff will meet all your food and beverage needs in a simple bar feel with an easy going approach to keeping the space entertaining, enticing and focused on the girl thing," Vella explains. "This evening is focused on the lesbian community, a friendly space to come together, enjoy some girl to girl company." Co-owner of Kamo Anthony Jones sees L.I.C as a great opportunity for Kamo to involve the lesbian community. "Many women frequent Kamo and it is essential for us to have a regular evening specifically for women." The first L.I.C. night begins at 9:30pm this Friday 27 March, with future nights planned for the last Friday of each month. Entry into the event is $5. Organiser Robyn Vella can be reached via email: L.I.C.atkamo@gmail.com.
