Free undies for Sunday's Speedo entrants

"It'll be a hot night with eye candy galore," say the organisers of this Sunday night's Speedo Party fundraiser at K' Road's Family bar. Contestants will model in swimwear and underwear parades, and have the opportunity to take part in a "buff your bum" Speedo competition to win a $1,000 prize pool, says long-time LGBT event organiser Wayne Nicholas. "This year's event will include a third parade by the contestants in sponsors underwear range of their choice - and they will keep the garment modeled," he tells GayNZ.com. Nicholas approached telephone support service OUTLine NZ to be the event's chosen charity. The ongoing economic crisis has severely affected the organisation's funding. Sponsors, like the ASB Trust, are now suspending funding rounds and reducing the amounts they can give in an effort to ensure their own survival. OUTLine NZ's General Manager Lesley Belcham, says "we're delighted to collect donations at this pride event as OUTLine NZ is going through a tough time as the economic recession bites." The event will begin at 7pm this Sunday 29 March. Entry is free, but volunteers will be at the door collecting gold coin donations. Potential contestants can bring their Speedos and enter the pageant on the night, "so come strut your stuff, show a bit of leg and be in to win," says the Family bar crew.
