HomoFringe hits Galatos next Saturday

A night celebrating gay and lesbian live music and performances is on at Auckland's Galatos venue next Saturday night. HomoFringeing: Charlie Ash The event will feature a number of established Auckland bands featuring out gay and lesbian performers in their lineups, as proceeds will be donated to LGBT young people's support network Rainbow Youth. Last seen at dawn in the laneways of Kings Cross after Mardi Gras, S>T>U>D (Sonic Transgender Underground DiscoGansgster) will make a rare appearance. Also performing is Auckland band Prince Diana featuring Shaun Thomas McGill, also known as Sohomo resident DJ Babes! Babes! Babes! playing a selection of electro torch songs. Time To Get Dumb event DJ Heads Will Roll will also spin music. Completing the live entertainment trilogy will be Wellington-born band Charlie Ash, who are preparing to tour Europe in May. Rosie Riggir – the niece of Patsy – is the band's flamboyant frontwoman, with dirty bass provided by Mailee Mathews of Fly My Pretties. The night will be also feature selection of music video clips from Kiwi gay and lesbian musicians and bands, plus excerpts from the upcoming Sohomo short film clip Where is Homo will be screened, and there'll be several surprise shows "from some of Auckland's weird and wonderful performers." The Sohomo crew and event promoter Josh Preston say the party is an opportunity to showcase upcoming bands with gay and lesbian members, "and provide an alternative party for Auckland's more discerning scenesters." HomoFringe was originally planned to take place as part of last month's Auckland Fringe Festival, but scheduling conflicts meant it had to be delayed.   HomoFringe happens at Galatos (Galatos St, Newton) from 9.30pm on Saturday 28 March.
