Nigeria's gay citizens have come out fighting against proposed laws which would make it a criminal offence to attend an LGBT event or wedding. Hundreds of youths stormed the House of Representatives on Wednesday to rally against the Bill which would "prohibit marriage and solemnization between persons of same gender". Several youth agencies - supported by the Human Rights Committee - condemned the Bill, and faced off the country's religious bodies who contended that sex between people of the same gender is an act against God's instruction and that the bill would help check immorality in the society. "God in his infinite wisdom, made sex enjoyable in order to encourage indulgence in it, for the purpose of procreation and not merely for hedonistic pleasure," said a representative of the Fellowship of Christian Patriots. The Bill will be debated in Parliament in coming weeks. Homosexuality is already illegal in Nigeria, punishable by up to 14 years hard labour in prison.
