With 9,500 people now officially lined up to be part of Sydney's Mardi Gras Parade this Saturday evening, its organisers have now confirmed it will be the biggest in its 31-year history. Quick march: More hunks than ever before for Saturday's Mardi Gras Parade "To be honest, we weren't expecting to exceed last year's number for some time, as it was the thirtieth anniversary – obviously quite a significant anniversary," New Mardi Gras Chair David Imrie told SX News. "We thought that numbers would probably come back a little this year. But we've been able to build on the momentum of last year and take it to the next level." This year's parade has benefitted from government funding, and Imrie promises 136 floats making up "visually spectacular" event. Meanwhile, he says tickets to the annual Mardi Gras Party have sold strongly, with the entertainment and DJ line-up confirmed to include The Freemasons and Paul Oakenfold. Air New Zealand will be flying a planeload of Kiwis to Mardi Gras on their Pink Flight leaving Auckland tomorrow afternoon, and this year the Parade will be covered live on NZ's Sky TV network. GayNZ.com has been invited to snap pictures from behind the scenes and all along the parade route at Saturday's Sydney Mardi Gras Parade. We'll feature the colourful photos in our gallery section in the days following the event.
