Police lost evidence in Barrymore case

Sat 28 Feb 2009 In: International News View at Wayback

British police have admitted publicly that they lost crucial evidence regarding the death of a young man at the home of gay entertainer Michael Barrymore. Stuart Lubbock, 31, was found floating in the pool of Barrymore's home after a party. Internal injuries suggested he had been violently sexually assaulted. An open verdict was recorded in a 200 inquest and although he was never charged in relation to the death Barrymore's glittering TV career went into decline. He spent time out in New Zealand with his Kiwi partner before returning to the UK in 2006. He recently performed the role of Spike Milligan on stage in Edinburgh. Lubbock's father picketed the theatre and has claimed that the lost evidence could have led to charges being laid.
