Gay Asians are shocked that their TV broadcasts of this year's Oscars ceremony were edited to cut the words 'gay' and 'lesbian' from winners' acceptance speeches. Censored: Milk writer Dustin Lance Black Actor Sean Penn and writer Dustin Lance Black, who won Oscars for their work in the Milk movie, were broadcast live uncensored, but repeat screenings had blank audio instead of their words 'gay' and 'lesbian', reports the Associated Press. "To all the gay and lesbian kids out there tonight ... you are beautiful, wonderful creatures of value, and that no matter what anyone tells you, God does love you," Black had said in his speech. Prominent Malaysian arts commentator Pang Khee Teik says the censorship sends a message "that gays and lesbians are still shameful things to be censored from the public's ears." "As a gay man, I am truly offended," he wrote to media. "Stop censoring the words that describe who I am."
