In a surprise turnout, more than 2,000 people rallied in the centre of Hawaii's capitol Honolulu at the weekend to protest a bill that would allow civil unions between same-sex partners. The protestors were asked to wear red, and represented dozens of local churches, temples, synagogues and mosques, reports the Honolulu Advertiser. "When I saw the sea of red, I was like, 'It's amazing how many people really believe that marriage is between a man and a woman,'" protester Khale Miller said. Hawaii's Civil Union Bill passed in their House earlier this month, but is now in danger of dying in the Senate Judiciary and Government Operations Committee, as a swing voter has recently indicated he'll vote against it.
