A world congress against homophobia will be held in Paris this May, reports UK Gay News. French minister for human rights Rama Yade proposed the conference as a major French contribution to International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO) which the government officially recognised last year. 17 May each year is marked across the world as a day to target homophobia and coordinate international events to call respect for lesbians and gays. IDAHO committee has stated that 2009's theme also includes 'combating transphobia'. France has repeatedly shown its commitment to LGBT equality at Government level, and introduced a statement to the United Nations late last year confirming that international human rights protections include sexual orientation and gender identity.
