GABA's ready to give $15k to LGBT groups

Tue 24 Feb 2009 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

The Gay Auckland Business Association's Annual Christmas Charity Auction last December raised over $15,000 in new funds now available for distribution to LGBT community organisations and individuals. Applications for grants from the GABA Charitable Trust are now being requested. "The principal objective of the Trust is to maintain a fund available to individuals and institutions for the explicit purpose of health, welfare, and support services for the benefit of the gay community of New Zealand," explains Trust Chair Geoffrey Marshall. While any project, activity or service that serves the LGBT community can be considered, priority will be given to those that benefit the Auckland gay community, benefit a large number of individuals, have an educational focus, and assist in reducing the marginalisation of gay people within society, says Marshall. Last year The Trust distributed $15,000 in grants to several organisations including Body Positive, The Charlotte Museum, Lesbians Out West, The Lesbian Elders Village Planning Group, The NZ AIDS Memorial Quilt Project, Outline NZ, Real Queer Outtakes Film Festival, Rainbow Youth, and Team Auckland Master Swimmers. The GABA Charitable Trust grant application form is on the link below. Applications close on 4 April 2009.
