Rain a worry for outdoor Pride events

Fri 20 Feb 2009 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Auckland's weather has taken a turn for the worse, leading to the postponement of today's OUTLine Tennis Tournament and worries over Sunday's Wigs on the Waterfront fundraiser. Rain radar: MetService charts the sky over NZ today After a sunny and sultry few weeks featuring Pride '09 events, central Auckland has been showery all day today, with the MetService issuing a heavy rain warning. OUTLine NZ had planned their tennis tournament at the West End Tennis Club in Cox's Bay for this evening, but it has now been postponed until 6pm this coming Monday. A small number of tickets for tonight's Hero Party are still available for a discounted rate from 10pm until 10:30pm at the Transmission Room door, with promoters saying most of the tickets have now been sold so are looking forward to a great event. MetService is predicting showers to continue through the weekend, meaning Sunday's Wigs on the Waterfront day of drag shows at the Viaduct Basin may be postponed until its raindate of Sunday 22 March. For now though, the organizers are "remaining positive" but will notify GayNZ.com on Saturday evening if the event will be postponed.
