WGN Proud: Guide launch, Fairies needed

Fri 13 Feb 2009 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Wellington is gearing up for its Proud '09 Festival in the last week of this month with a special event programme launch - and there's a call for more 'Fair Fairies' to help out at Out in the Square. Winged workers: Fair Fairies at Out in the Square The Out Wellington crew is launching Proud '09's fit-in-your-pocket festival guide on Tuesday 17 February 5:30pm - 7pm at the NZAF's Awhina Centre on Willis Street. Kim Crawford Wines have generously sponsored the event so there will be wine provided, as well as nibbles. "The guide doesn't officially hit the streets until the next day, so be the first to get your hands on a copy," say the team. Meanwhile, the Out in the Square day, planned for the Civic Square on Saturday 28 February, needs more volunteers to help make the event run smoothly. "We like to call our volunteers Fair Fairies, and to generate a carnival atmosphere we provide you with wings to wear and a wand to wave," says Out Wellington's Justin Curreen-Harris. The volunteers will help with setting up stalls from 8am, perform small but essential tasks during the day, and help take down the stalls at around 5pm. Early-rising helpers will receive a breakfast and bagels and cream cheese. "You are not required to be there all day, and certainly not working all that time," Curreen-Harris explains.
