Sunshine predicted for Big Gay Out

Sat 7 Feb 2009 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

The MetService weather forecast says Auckland will be fine and sunny tomorrow, so it's all systems go for the Big Gay Out, New Zealand's biggest outdoor LGBT event. More than 8,000 people – and over 100 dogs – are expected to join in the annual family fun day in Coyle Park, Point Chevalier tomorrow from midday until 7pm, including a large bus full of Waikato gay folks travelling from Hamilton for the day. A wide variety of community group stalls, dance tents and food stalls will be set up early tomorrow morning, along with the main stage in the Northern corner of the park which will feature drag king and queen acts, live musicians, speeches and prize draws throughout the afternoon. MetService predits tomorrow will be a scorcher, with a top of 28C around midday, so Big Gay Outers are advised to apply lots of sunscreen through the day, and wear a hat. There may be some refreshing sea breezes as the afternoon progresses. Since parking will become difficult along Point Chevalier Road from the early afternoon, a free Big Gay Out bus will run back and forth along the road dropping people off at the park from Midday until 7:30pm.
