The mayor of Wellington has agreed to take on the challenging role of head judge at the first performance of the Queen of the Whole Universe pageant in the capital. Pageant girls: Coming to Wellington Her Worship the Mayor Kerry Prendergast has often supported Wellington's LGBT events and organisations in the capital, and is a patron of the Rainbow Wellington LGBT network. Saturday 27 June will see a mixed cast of Auckland and Wellington volunteers become beauty pageant 'girls' from around the world and across the universe. A cast of more than 40 entertainers will take to the stage at the 1,500 capacity St. James Theatre. The annual Queen of the Whole Universe pageant is a popular AIDS charity fundraiser in Auckland, but has never been fully staged in Wellington before now.
