Stephen Fry stuck Twittering in lift

Wed 4 Feb 2009 In: International News View at Wayback View at NDHA

Gay British actor, author, director and wit Stephen Fry got stuck in a lift for 45 minutes today - with his 108,833 followers on the website Twitter kept informed of his captivity and rescue. Stuck: Stephen Fry Twitters in a lift After Barack Obama, Fry is the second most popular person on Twitter, a website which members can update with short messages - like a 'mini blog'. Fry typed from the central London lift using his mobile phone: "Ok. This is now mad. I am stuck in a lift on the 26th floor of Centre Point. Hell's teeth. We could be here for hours. Arse, poo and widdle." He even provided a picture of himself and other passengers stuck in the small capsule. Almost an hour later, he typed: "We're free! Nice men from Thyssen freed us. Paramount Club had champagne for us at the bottom. I'm allergic, but nice thought." Fry's Twitter followers have doubled in number since he spoke about the website during a BBC interview. He even 'Twittered' updates on his recent trip to New Zealand filming a wildlife TV series - but BBC bosses warned him not to give away too many details about the show. GayNZ.com has started our own Twitter page, which automatically updates with links to our most recent stories - and now we invite more 'followers'.
