Beginning a month of parties, shows, sports, arts, networking and theatre, Auckland's Pride '09 Festival Launch is now confirmed for K' Road's Purple Bar on Sunday 1st of February. Along with performances and drag shows at the free event, speakers will include Auckland Central MP Nikki Kaye, and Rainbow Labour MP Chris Carter. "The Pride '09 Festival team came together on 2nd of December 2008, it's only taken a breath - taking and hectic 51 days to bring the festival, Hero party included, together," says Pride '09 co-organiser Lionel Vongue. The launch event was originally going to be held at the Maritime Room in the viaduct, but the original date clashed with OUTline NZ's Milk movie premiere, and after discussions with Dawson's Catering about the timeframe needed to organize the night, the Pride '09 team thought it best to move the launch forward and streamline it, Vongue explains. "Pride '09 would like to acknowledge the amazing support, advice and the offer of the use of the Maritime Room by Dawson's Catering." The Pride '09 Festival Launch will be held from 6pm - 8pm on Sunday 1 February at Purple bar, upstairs on the corner of K' Road and Pitt Streets. There is no charge for this event, but for catering purposes please RSVP by emailing pride09@aeonz.co.nz before Thursday 29 January.
