K' Road connected to new Wi-Fi network

Thu 22 Jan 2009 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Auckland's gayest street is one of the first places in New Zealand to be covered by a new high-speed Wi-Fi internet service. From this week and for a small fee, people can now use their laptops and some mobile phones to connect wirelessly to the net along Karangahape Road, and in six other Wi-Fi areas dotted around central Auckland. Designed to help grow the city's economy, the new connection was arranged by Auckland City Council, Wi-Fi service provider Tomizone and telecommunications company Kordia. Along with K' Road, the connection is also available in Aotea Square, areas of Ponsonby, Remuera and Parnell, as well as the Viaduct Basin and Westhaven. More areas will be added in the near future. Speeds of 2 Mbps or more are available within the coverage zone, at a 'pay as you go' rate of $3 per hour, $6.50 per day or $30 per week.
