Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor play gay in new romantic comedy I Love You Phillip Morris, which premiered this week at the Sundance Film Festival to favourable reviews. "Acceptance and love": Jim Carrey Carrey plays Steven Russell, a cop and family man whose life dramatically changes following a car smash - he comes out as gay, and turns to crime. The law catches up with him and he eventually meets the love of his life in jail - and goes to extreme lengths to be with him. "I don't think it's a gay movie," Carrey clarifies. "It really is about the lengths we go to for acceptance and love." His co-star McGregor has previously played gay film roles, but Carrey had not, and he admits he had fears initially: "If I were to be really honest, there's a homophobic voice that rises up inside me and goes 'Gee this is kind of scary,'" he told Reuters. "First of all, what will people think? And second of all, will I like it? Will I like kissing Ewan?" he laughed. Early reviews suggest the two actors appear in 'sexually blunt' scenes, which some insiders say might limit the film's appeal to mainstream audiences. The official trailer for I Love You Phillip Morris appears below.
