A dozen members of GayNZ.com's Forum met at Ponsonby's campest café Dorothy's Sister yesterday evening, for the first of what is hoped will become a regular event. Off-line face-time: Some GayNZ.com Forum members last night Recognising that several new people had joined the Forum recently to discuss LGBT events, debate gay issues and just chat about their lives, GayNZ.com writer Matt Akersten decided to arrange a social event so members could discover the people behind the profiles. "I'd been asked a few times if I could arrange something, so decided to make plans and see what happened," he explains. "I wasn't certain whether anyone would actually show up, but was really pleased with the turn-out and great time we had. It was lovely to see a mixture of ages and genders there too." February is a busy month in Auckland with a large number of Pride '09 Festival events, but it is hoped the Forum Meet-Ups will become a regular monthly event from March. GayNZ.com will also have a stall at this year's Big Gay Out. The first GayNZ.com Forum Meet-Up in Wellington will take place during the capital's LGBT Proud Festival in March, and could become a regular event there also if it proves popular.
