The claws are out in the capital's drag scene this week with several divas campaigning to be crowned Miss Drag Wellington 2009 on Sunday night. Tit for tat: Malibu wonders whose breasts are best Seven fabulous queens are in the running for Wellington's Next Top Drag Queen and are this week busy putting the final touches on their costumes, routines, and makeup techniques. "The claws have well and truly been cut for what will be a close competition," says the event's promoter Andy Boreham. Well-known Wellington divas Malibu, Felicity Frockaccino and Rhubarb Rouge have entered the contest and are encouraging support by starting 'vote for me' Facebook groups. The event has several prize sponsors including 'as seen on TV' makeup Thin Lizzy, Kim Crawford Wines, Warner Music, Twinings Tea, GayNZ.com and The Guava Tree. The winner also receives a photoshoot with the official photographer of The Glamazons, and will appear on the cover of a future issue of GayNZ.com's glossy printed Gig Guide, sent to LGBT venues around New Zealand. Wellington's Next Top Drag Queen will be held at The Garden Club (ground floor in the Club Ivy building, 13 Dixon Street) this Sunday 18 January - as Monday is a public holiday in Wellington. Doors open at 8pm with free entry, VIP tables for those in first and plenty of standing room. The show starts at 9pm on-the-dot. Those enjoying the pageant can purchase 2-for-1 drinks until 10pm.
