Gay café diners in Christchurch are urging the manager of the Crumpet Club on Durham Street to remove a reference to a pie that sounds 'slightly gay' from the menu. 'Slightly gay pie': Slightly homophobic menu? "Chicken, brie and sweet corn with a green salad. Sounds slightly gay, I know, but oh so tasty," declares the menu, which a diner scanned into his computer and emailed to GayNZ.com. Another gay patron threatened to complain to the Human Rights Commission about the "anti-gay slur", an implication that being 'slightly gay' is undesirable. The Crumpet Club's manager Phillip Krall says the entire menu contains several light-hearted entries that "are just a bit of fun". "The menu wasn't meant to offend anyone," he tells GayNZ.com. "It's about creating goodwill, not badwill. "But I take these complaints seriously and we're in the process of updating the menu now - we'll remove the 'gay' comment." The Crumpet Club's full menu can be downloaded below.
