Vinegar Hill's new Queen looks to next year

Mon 5 Jan 2009 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

The 24th Queen of Vinegar Hill is Daniel Corney of Auckland, who has provided prizes and services for several previous Vinegar Hill camps. 2009's Queen of Vinegar Hill - Daniel Corney Corney, who was crowned in a special ceremony on New Year's Eve, tells GayNZ.com that this year's gay camping at Vinegar Hill reserve in the Manawatu attracted around 700 gay and lesbian people and their friends and families from Christmas to New Year's. "There were so many people and so much fun. We had our Fashion in the Field dressing up contest, drag shows and singers, river rafting on lilos, a 'pick a purse' gameshow, even a 'bogan' theme party… all before the annual bonfire party to see in the New Year." A few campers are still there, but most have packed up their tents and said goodbye to Vinegar Hill for another year. Corney's task as Queen for 2009 is to raise money and organize the activities and entertainment for next summer's camp. "This year was my eighth Vinegar Hill and I'm happy to say it's going from strength to strength with entertainment and fun. See you all at the next one in December."
