Saving humanity from homosexual acts is as important as saving the rainforests, suggests Pope Benedict in his Christmas message. Pope Benedict XVI The Pope said that blurring the differences between men and women could lead to humanity's downfall. "The tropical forests do deserve our protection. But man, as a creature, does not deserve any less," he said, according to Reuters. The Catholic Church "should also protect man from the destruction of himself. A sort of ecology of man is needed." Traditional Catholic teachings say that while homosexuality is not sinful, homosexual acts are. The Pope's visit to Sydney earlier this year prompted LGBT activists to hold a 'kiss-in' outside venues where the pontiff was speaking.
