The cast and crew of November's Queen of the Whole Universe drag fundraiser got to see themselves on the big screen last night at the 'world premiere' of QWU on Film at Auckland's Academy Cinema. Presenting the cheques: Eamonn Smyth (Director of Positive Health, NZAF), Craig Walter (Clinic Co-ordinator, Body Positive), Jane Bruning (National Co-ordinator Positive Women) and Jonathan Smith (QWU Creative Director) The show had packed out the Aotea Centre last month and raised thousands of dollars for worthy charities. Representatives from the three recipient charities were presented cheques at the film screening. HIV charities Body Positive and Positive Women each received $11,000, and the NZ AIDS Foundation got $11,500 – with the extra $500 a donation from guest performer Helen Medlyn. The next Queen of the Whole Universe show is on in Wellington's St James Theatre on Saturday 27 June next year. Tickets are now on sale from Ticketek (linked below). Accompanying the show is a free photo exhibition in the St. James Theatre Foyer from Monday 22 June to Sunday 28 June 2009. "We also need cast and crew from Wellington to support the QWU09 Wellington performance," says the show's creative director Jonathan Smith. Informal auditions will be held in Wellington on Sunday 1 March 2009. Contact Smith via email at eventimentonz@xtra.co.nz for details.
