Australian lesbian poet Dorothy Porter has died from complications due to cancer. Dorothy Porter, 1954-2008 She was 54, and had been suffering from breast cancer for four years before her death, reports The Age newspaper. Porter was best known for The Monkey's Mask, a crime thriller in verse about a lesbian detective. Published in 1994, the book won the Age Poetry Book of the Year. Porter moved to Melbourne in 1993 to be with her partner and fellow writer Andrea Goldsmith. Her agent Jenny Darling said: "Dorothy was the most passionate of people who gave her all to everything she engaged with. We cannot imagine the world without her."
