Urge bar turns 11 with party weekend

Wed 26 Nov 2008 In: New Zealand Daily News

Auckland's Urge bar reaches another milestone this weekend as it celebrates its 11th Birthday with a weekend of festivities. On 29 November 1997, Larry Quickenden, Philip Stack and Peter Taylor opened the bar's doors for the first time and the gay men's venue on K' Road hasn't looked back since. To celebrate the birthday, Urge is holding a BBQ and Keg Night this Friday with doors opening early at 7pm and music from DJ Ant. Then on Saturday the bar is throwing a big party with music from resident DJs Mauri and Raj. "The weekend's parties are a thank you to all of our customers who have supported the bar over the years," says co-owner Paul Heard.
