A Greens co-spokesperson on glbt issues says he is happy with his party's just-announced decision to only link up with Labour, and not National, in any post-election governing coalition arrangement. The Greens' Kevin Hague Kevin Hague says that although social policy was one of the factors by which the Greens compared National and Labour, "gay and lesbian issues weren't explicitly part of the comparison, but the reason for this is that we already knew Labour was much closer to us than National." He says the Greens have a proven strong commitment to the glbt communities. Hague believes that by voting for the Greens glbt people will get "a more progressive" Labour-led government on glbt issues than if they directly give their party vote to Labour, which would be "effectively a vote for Labour/United Future/NZ First, as they chose last time."
