The organizer of Queentown's Gay Ski Week has announced his crew will be back in the 'adventure capital' from 10 to 18 January 2009 with the inaugural Summer Camp NZ. "After six Gay Ski Weeks in Queenstown, we're finding demand for an equivalent summer event," says Mike Sanford. "Ski Week provides an organized, but relaxed holiday for people with others who share a similar social profile. People like the format so much that they're keen for us to organize something for summer as well." A combination of adventure days, safaris, golf, a pol party, mountainbiking and hiking around Queenstown and Wanaka and Glenorchy has been designed to provide for a broad range of activity," explains Sanford. As with Ski Week, there will be nightly gatherings for après adventure debriefs and dinners starting with evening drinks each evening at host hotel Copthorne Queenstown. Sanford believes the gay tourism market is so far unaffected by the current economic conditions and looks forward to attracting a good number of people to the event. Daytime temperatures in Queenstown hover between 20° - 30°C in summertime, and the 45° south latitude means summer days are long – in midsummer the dawn is as early as 5am and dusk doesn't settle until around 10pm.
