Family stage set for DJ showdown

Eight DJs will battle it out behind the decks on stage at Auckland's gayest nightclub this fortnight. Tuning talent: Babes! Babes! Babes! Pic: Lydia Cowpertwait Family's stage has been refitted especially for the DJ Battle event, with the DJ decks set up facing the dancefloor so partygoers can see all the action. "This Thursday and next Thursday, we're checking out and supporting the freshest new GLBT DJ talent in Auckland, and giving these exciting young mixers and selectors access to NZ's most popular gay dancefloor," says the club's owner Wayne Clark. "For many, it will be their first time playing at Family – and they can't wait!" Selected by public vote, the winning DJ will receive $500 cash, a new set of headphones, and the chance to play for the Family massive at the Hard Labour party on Labour Weekend Sunday. This Thursday night from 9pm features up-and-coming DJ Ben Beh, Flirt's DJ Dee from 10:30pm, Sohomo's Babes! Babes! Babes! from midnight, and Family resident DJ Starli rounding out the night with a set from 1:30 until 3am. Next Thursday 23 October is round two, with singer/songwriter/fashionista/DJ Ramon from 9pm, Flirt's DJ Danielle from 10:30pm, Sohomo's Oscar Nutt from midnight, and Family resident DJ Tenali from 1:30 until 3am. The K' Road nightclub is also currently featuring a Family's Got Talent contest each Wednesday evening until the Grande Final on Sunday 16 November.
