Aucklanders who visit the K' Road Clinic for a free, confidential HIV test today – Saturday 4 October – can then visit to Playle Hairdressing in nearby Canada Street for a free hair cut and style. The Chop event begun at 10am, and organiser David Playle is hoping for a busy day, with over twenty stylists involved, and entertainment planned through the day. Body Positive are providing the HIV testing staff and kits at the clinic located at Samoa House, 283 K' Road. The test we will use is the new Canadian 'Insti' test and results are immediate. Trained staff will be on hand for information, support, and assistance where required. A voucher will be given after the test, which can be taken to Playle Hairdressing at 2 Canada Street – just two minutes' walk from the clinic – for their complementary hair styling. The salon is open until 4pm. Respected hair stylist David Playle says he had the idea for today's free haircutting day after his friend contracted HIV. Realizing that few people were getting tested, he put his mind to an event which would make more people get HIV tests.
