In it to win it: Kevin will be on stage this Sunday The contestants, who've all been introduced on stage on recent Saturday nights at the K' Road club, will be featured in casual wear, formal wear, swimwear and McPherson Men underwear rounds. Backstage grooming will be taken care of by Playle Hairdressing. The team of five judges rating the pageant talent are Cindy of Samoa, Campbell Orr from Caluzzi cabaret restaurant, Matt Akersten from GayNZ.com, Paul Hays from Express and Ben Barrett-Boyes from the NZ AIDS Foundation. 2008's prize package includes a return flight to Mardi Gras on the Air New Zealand Pink Flight, a $500 clothing voucher for World Man collections, $500 worth of underwear by Macpherson Men, $500 worth of haircare from Playle Hairdressing and L'Oreal, plus dining and drag shows for two at Caluzzi to the value of $200, a case of pure 42Below vodka, and $500 cash. Some of the contestants - including 20-year-old Kevin, pictured at right - have been campaigning via Facebook and Bebo for as many friends as possible to come and support them, and the judging team will take into account audience cheering when they make their decision. Last year's winner was 34-year-old Germany-born Hannes Eilers, who promised the crowd he'd provide a free sausage sizzle if he won Mr. Gay Auckland 2007 last July. He made good on his promise a few months later.
