An Auckland-based TV crew producing a fly-on-the-wall documentary series about weddings are hoping to film a same-sex couple's civil union. "We would really like it if at least one of the episodes featured a gay couple, but we don't have any signed up yet," says Cream TV researcher Rachel Judkins. Cream TV have previously produced TV2's LGBT series Kiwifruit and a documentary about gay people who have left their straight marriages, called Fencejumpers. The ideal couple for the new series would be planning their civil union now for a date sometime between now and February, and live in or near Auckland. "We are interested in all sorts of civil unions: themed celebrations, unusual locations as well as more traditional ceremonies," explains Judkins. Interested couples can contact Judkins via email at research@creammedia.co.nz, providing a photo and some details including the date of the planned union ceremony. New Zealand's first televised civil union was broadcast on Valentine's Day 2006, in an episode of Shortland Street. Maori TV's Takataapui programme featured a real-life civil union earlier this year.
