GayNZ.com has today begun its switch-over to our new-look logo, the result of a competition amongst the website's users to submit a design which encapsulated the feel and objectives of the site. The winner: GayNZ.com's new-look logo Deon Hendrikz from Auckland's North Shore received a limited edition iPod Touch featuring imagery from the new Disney/Pixar movie Wall-E for designing the logo, which the GayNZ.com team picked for its sharp, modern and professional look. Over 50 new GayNZ.com logos were received in the competition. Hendrikz, who is a full-time graphic designer, also won OUTline NZ's similar logo contest last year – that logo can be seen displayed on our front page in support of the LGBT telephone support service. The designer says the new GayNZ.com logo was fun and exciting to work on. "It reflects a modern company broadcasting news to the gay community. The logo is modern, clean, bold, and directs viewers in the style of broadcasting waves that beam out to the world. The darker blue reflects its historic, credible background." GayNZ.com content manager Jay Bennie says he would like to publicly thank all the entrants into the contest for their inspiration and work on the logo design entries, and also acknowledges technical manager Neil Gibb's efforts in implementing the winning logo, which is now this website's official brand identity for web, print and promotional use. "We received a wide range of designs, from the fluid and free form to the simple and concise, but in the end we felt Deon's entry was spot on and eminently usable in the wide variety of places, both within the website and further afield, that we need a graphic presence," says Bennie. GayNZ.com has followed many of Hendrikz's suggested applications for the logo, albeit sometimes modified a little to allow a graduated change from our previous 'look.'
