Sydney: Gays plan wedding in synagogue

Mon 15 Sep 2008 In: International News View at Wayback

Despite gay marriage being illegal in New South Wales, a male Jewish couple have spoken about their plans to wed in a Sydney synagogue. Their nuptials – which would be an Australian first – may split the Jewish community, reports the Sunday Telegraph. "When you're planning a wedding, you don't think about the political side of it. Maybe it will start something," Christopher Whitmont-Stein, 38, who has been in a relationship with Scott Whitmont, 47, for nine years, told the paper. "Same sex unions should be recognised ... because we don't have the same legal rights as heterosexual couples." This story continues on the link below.
