Second Waipouri killer gets 15 years' jail

Palmerston North teenager Andre Gilling – guilty of the gruesome murder of gay man Stanley Waipouri – has today been sentenced to life imprisonment. Prison: Andre Gilling He must serve a minimum non-parole period of 15 years. In the High Court in Palmerston North, Justice Terence Arnold said Waipouri had been subjected to a "prolonged and savage beating" by two teenagers in a fatal attack which showed a high level of brutality, the NZPA reports. 19-year-old Andre Gilling was found guilty by a jury in July of the December 2006 murder of Waipouri, 39. His co-accused friend Ashley Arnopp, who later admitted his part in the killing, got the same sentence after trial in February.
