Around 200 people have arrived in Queenstown to enjoy Gay Ski Week, and already competition was fierce today between Kiwi and Aussie speed skiers, says the event's organiser Mike Sanford. Today and tomorrow, Aussies and Kiwis will compete speeding down the slopes in the annual 'Downhill Dash for Cash'. A bus will transport participants to and from Coronet Peak and Cardrona skifields throughout the week, followed by a hectic schedule of creative nighttime activities. "We're all here and it's all on – and today was a fabulous sunny day to welcome everyone here," said Sanford tonight. Some showers are expected in Queenstown mid-week, but it'll be fine tomorrow and Friday, says the Metservice. All the ski slopes are open. A group of 40 people plan to enjoy pizza at Queenstown's Winnie's restaurant tonight.
