'Trannylicious' Venus deMars tours NZ

Wed 20 Aug 2008 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

UPDATED 30 August 2008 - deMars' Auckland concert has now been cancelled. Minneapolis-based transgendered performance artist Venus deMars – who's been turning heads and making waves in the underground music scene since the '90's – heads to New Zealand next week with shows in Wellington, Ohakune and Auckland. Rock glam: Venus deMars deMars hasn't hit our shores since the winter of 2004, where hir tour ended with a packed show at the then Indigo, now San Francisco Bath House, in Wellington when s/he fronted electrofunk band All the Pretty Horses. deMars returns to promote hir solo album Trashed and Broken Hearted. "In a world where music is homogenized and controversy is manufactured, Venus deMars has few peers," says Spin magazine. "Musically and visually, she is a true original, channeling the vocal gender-bending of Bowie and the showmanship of KISS, all wrapped up in a glamorous-but-tragic, uncompromising package." deMars' three New Zealand concerts will be supported by local bands and a multimedia experience by the Wellington-based Cuddl collective. Venus deMars' show dates are 28 August in Wellington at The San Francisco Bath House with Percy Feral and Vorn, 29 August in Ohakune at Kings with Percy Feral and Vorn, and 30 August in Auckland at Galatos Main Room with Battle Circus and Percy Feral.
