The New Zealand Council of Trade Unions (NZCTU) aims to increase knowledge of how LGBT and employment rights have developed and strengthen diversity in the New Zealand workplace with upcoming seminars in Christchurch and Auckland. Out at Work: The girls of the NZCTU At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to understand unions' role and structures in supporting LGBTI workers, identify the tools available for advancing LGBTI rights, human rights and employment rights, and discuss good practices in workplaces for supporting LGBTI rights, says the NZCTU. Taking place in Christchurch on Tuesday 26 August and Auckland on Tuesday 23 September, the seminars are organised by the CTU @ Work Network, which was set up in 2000 as the Council of Trade Union's network for lesbian, gay, takataapui, bisexual, intersex, transgender and fa'afafine union members. There is a $50 charge to attend, which can be subsidised with Employment Related Education Leave funding, so that union members have a right to attend the course in work time. Prospective attendees should contact their local union office to register – forms can be downloaded from the link below.
