AKL: New group for youth on North Shore

Sun 3 Aug 2008 In: New Zealand Daily News

Rainbow Youth has crossed Auckland's Harbour bridge with a new social and support group for queer young people who live on the North Shore. Over a dozen people took part in each of the first two meetings of Queer 4 Shore, to relax and chill out with others in a café environment, says co-facilitator Nemo Craig. "We decided we needed a group on the Shore, after we had so many people turn up to our groups in the city who were coming over the bridge to see us," Craig tells GayNZ.com. "We've had a good mixture of guys and girls at our first meetings too." Like Rainbow Youth's other groups, Queer 4 Shore is for anyone under the age of 27 who are questioning their sexuality or gender identity, or have just recently 'come out'. Some are also new to Auckland and looking to make more friends through the informal social setting away from the bar/nightclub scene. Interested people can contact the group's facilitators via email at queer4shore@rainbowyouth.org.nz.
