Rainbow Youth announces Alternative Ball

Thu 24 Jul 2008 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Auckland-based LGBT youth advocacy group Rainbow Youth is planning a ball where "it doesn't matter who your date is - or who wears the dress!" "So if your school won't let you have a same sex partner – who cares! Or if you are no longer at school – aged up to 20 - and want that Ball experience than The Alternative Ball is just for you," say the team of Rainbow Youthers behind the recent Prism youth dance parties. The drug, alcohol and smoke-free event will be held in September at the Pioneer Womens' Hall in O'Connell St, central Auckland. It's designed for LGBT, questioning, and queer friendly youth aged between 13 and 20. "You don't have to be queer to attend," say the team, "you just have to be open minded." "It's a Ball dress-up theme, so get out your fave dress or rent that tux you've had your eye on and have a fantastic night!" The Ball planning crew are currently looking for adults over 20 who want to support the event with volunteer time or sponsorship.
