Philip Pridmore of Northland gay getaway Dragon Tree Lodge has become the Gay Auckland Business Association's new President, at their well-attended Annual General Meeting last night. The new GABA crew: (clockwise from top left) Russell Finnemore, Mark Thomas, Scott Tynan, Bruce Kilmister, Gavin Hyde, Kerry Swan, Philip Pridmore and Neville Creighton. Outgoing President Mark Thomas told the meeting he had thoroughly enjoyed his twelve months in the role, but had to step down due to unforeseen circumstances taking up much of his time. GABA's growth continues, as global confidence in gay and lesbian commerce has found a new confidence and strength, explained Thomas, who listed the GABA Mayoral Forum, the dinner with Sir Ian McKellen, the Charitable Trust Auction and the NZAF/GABA Hospitality Marquee at the Big Gay Out as highlights of the last year. The organisation's financial situation was comfortable this year, due to a slight increase in the number of membership subscriptions and some cost-cutting in general operating expenses, noted Treasurer Anthony Waldron in his financial report. Looking forward however, he recognised that operating costs are increasing, so membership fees may also need to increase. New President Philip Pridmore, who has a background in marketing management, joins Vice-President Kerry Swan, Secretary Gavin Hyde, Treasurer Anthony Waldron, and committee members Neville Creighton, Russell Finnemore, Mark Thomas, Scott Tynan and Bruce Kilmister on GABA's 2008-9 committee. Three more places on the committee are still vacant, and Pridmore says he's particularly interested in strengthening lesbian representation, so would particularly welcome female applicants for the remaining positions the committee.
