WGN: 2nd 'Out in the Square' set for Feb '09

Thu 3 Jul 2008 In: New Zealand Daily News

The second annual Out in the Square Gay and Lesbian Fair has been confirmed for Saturday 28 February in Wellington's Civic Square. Setting up: 'Out in the Square' stallholders last Autumn "We are really excited and so looking forward to bringing another fabulous GLBTI event to the heart of Wellington city," says Out Wellington's Virginia Hopkins-Burns. Out in the Square, which attracted thousands of spectators last year, featured live singers and shows along with stalls providing food, wine, merchandise and information on the capital's LGBT community groups. The date originally planned for next year's fair was unavailable, so the event is now scheduled to take place a week earlier than usual, in February. As part of the Wellington City Council's Summer City Festival, Out in the Square will take place between other Wellington events such as the Children's Art Festival and Vodafone's Homegrown, Organisers say they are already hard at work on planning for the next fair and will take on board large amounts of feedback gained at this year's event. "We were lucky enough to have a sizeable number of the community willing to give very valuable feedback," says Hopkins-Burns. "People who were very interested in seeing this fair continue for years and years to come." Out Wellington, organisers of the fair, are holding their annual general meeting on Tuesday 15 July, and would like anyone interested in helping out as a volunteer, or just those who wish to attend, to come along to the Awhina Centre (Level 1, 187 Willis Street) at 6pm. "Come along and help us make the next Out in the Square one to remember."
